These are a couple of recent firsts for me. My First Crappie and my first smallie on the fly!

The crappie was pretty damn fun on the fly!

The smallie doesn’t have much size to him but it’s a milestone for me.

Very cool !! BTW , your Crappie is a White Crappie - notice the vertical bars ? The Black Crappie looks just like it , but w/ no bars , just random spots .

Catch some more !

I think the Crappie is a beautiful fish.

I have only caught them occasionally.

Thanks David Lee and Bill.

Yes, it is a white crappie. I have yet to catch a black crappie for some reason? They are in northern California waters, right?

Cheers,

Black Crappies are the most common Crappie here in CA. . After the spawn (Feb.-April) , they seem to be caught more at Dawn/Dusk/deep (for me , anyways ....) .

Another interesting Sunfish , and our only Native species ... is the Sacramento Perch . They look a little like Crappies . You can find a few at Lagoon Valley .

Good luck with your new species Hunt !!

Looks you had a great day or evening rather than a Crappie one.... Maybe both.... Amazing how fish can bring smiles to the faces of all who catch them.

Gotta kepp it going now. :D
