The last beautiful wild river in California and tributaries bordering Southern Oregon could be threatened!

Thought this needed to be bumped back to the top for current status. Info in the blog shows that there are at least 2 proposals for nikel laterite mining operations in southern Oregon (Kalmiopsis Wild Area) on head waters of Smith and southern Oregon rivers. Looks like things have been temporarily slowed but still in progress and is worth following.

Check out the link to the blog in the original post....

Good O.P. and bump!

Hope we can preserve a cool place at the border of our two states.

Mining seems at odds with other uses of that natural beauty to me.

Yeah, it's one of the last places in this state that still beckon to me for Salmon/Steelhead fishing. Lots of foggy weather and very green foliage....

Have spent a lot of time in various corners of that glorious bit of the world, and it really is a treasure that is far too great to spoil. The website has a lot of links with nice pictures to give some idea, so even if you just want to spend a few minutes daydreaming it's worth perusing. I do very much hope this doesn't come to pass!!!
