View Full Version : Free Orvis Fly Fishing 101 Classes for beginners @ Kiene's

At Kiene's Fly Shop in Sacramento we are going to start the Orvis fly fishing 101 classes on June 7th. These classes will be held every Saturday until July 5th.

The intent of these classes is get more people into fly fishing and help that new person get a better understanding of flyfishing and help them make better choices when purchasing their very first set up. These classes are designed for the person that knows very little about fly fishing and it will provide them with the basics to get started.

The classes will be three hours long and the signup sheets will be at the front counter.

Doug Duncan will be teaching most of the classes with help from Bryce Tedford.

Remember, there is NO COST for this class.

Below is a basic outline of the class.

There will be a limit of six students for each Saturday class

All you need to bring is a hat and sun glasses, we have the tackle.

Outline of the Orvis 101 Fly Fishing class:

8:00am Meet at the store, coffee and introductions.
8:15am Basic rod actions, components and assembly
8:30am Fly reel introduction, construction, materials, arbor types
8:45am Basic Fly lines. floater, double taper,sink tip etc.
9:00am Hands on knot tying. improved clinch, double surgeon
9:30am Casting video
10:00am Casting instruction in back parking lot. pickup and put down cast, false casting, basic shooting concepts
11:00am Store tour, gadget explanations and help with any sales
