Upper American is maintaining good fishing, water is looking like late June conditions. Fish are active and eating caddis, stones and lots of various mays. Some salmon flies are starting to show up. Hiked up a new creek in the gap and got some big boys as well as the worst blisters I've ever had.

Get out there! Booking trips in the hills. Pm me or click the link for details!

Keep those blister inducing hikes secretes. Some of those streams and lakes have fish reaching the high teens and are only a mouse click away from being ruined.
Keep up the good work, sounds like we will cross paths soon.

I dare anyone to hike some of these creeks! I'm sure we will

I'm stoked there's others who look at topo maps all night and dream of what could be there.

Over the years I have met some younger fly fishers who did nothing but those big hike ins.

Steve Rice and his friend where two of them.

There was a wiry young doctor who even used ropes to get in.....Tom Deeble(sp)

These adventurous anglers will always exist, just not many of them.

That's a very good point Ryan but no worries for the canyons. That hike in and worse yet the hike out have been deterring the masses for the 30 years that I've been fishing there. I'm sure that filter will keep on keeping them out for 30 more.
Here's a link to an article that Bill Carnazzo wrote years ago on fishing the Middle Fork.

Bill,

Funny you mention ropes. I always cary my rappel gear.I know everyone says don't fish alone, but I've been doing it for over 20 successful years. I cry when I see some videos of fish caught in these places showing up in fishing films. It's only a matter of time before the worm containers and trash follows.I have kept secret spots from family and best friends for years, with a few actually asking people if they saw my vehicle in certain areas.I am stoked your out exploring and keep the good secrets for your kids. California has some of the best trout water in the world, it's just kept close too the chest by the few that have done the work on timing of the runs.

Just have to be careful in those canyons....nefarious two-legged creatures growing and producing bad things...they can be very dangerous...be ready to bugout quickly...

If you stay on the river you won't have any issues. As I've said before, if you don't know where the road or trail goes, don't take it!
