Is there a difference? I have been trying to research this online... confused.... Thanks for the help. (PS. My rod is the Famous Andy Guibord Ross Reach 12' 6").

there is a difference in the overall length of the head. 20' for the short and 23' for the max. the short just requires a more concise casting stroke than the max. for that rod length i would get the standard skagit max....

Thanks so much! I must be impatient because I looked at the online ads for the product and I swear none of them had that info.

I used an iflight 490 on it and it cast well.

23ft would be perfect

David,

The iFlight is only in 475 or 500. The AirFlo lines that come in 480. Personally I do not know who makes a 490..... Unless its a custom line.
