Saw this mentioned on a couple of other BB's. I once broke a glass rod just above the handle while Shad fishing. I put the reel and handle in the pocket in my waders and went on fishing. Very light and non-tiring.
I'm seeing it as just another unnecessary piece of equipment. Durning the late 60's or early 70's I read somewhere that tournament caster remove their reels from the rod to cast for comfort/distance. Who knows, maybe someone can find a need/use for it.

Just saw this on Dans board.. My first impression was, the first hot fish you hook, a loop of line is gonna jump around that thing. I guess I don't see the fundamentals of flyfishing needing tweaking to that extreme.

Wow, I'd never considered that. From a float tube, I don't believe I've put more than a couple fish on the reel ever (even fish up to a 24" brown) so that'd actually work for me. I'll have to give it a shot next time.
If the fish did take off the reel would stop at my "drag hand" and the fish could take all the line it wanted and it'd give me a chance to mount the reel if needed.
Thanks for the idea!

jbird,.... I agree with your thought on a "hot fish". I have enough problem with those loops wrapping around the handle, glasses frames, nipper, etc. Don't need to add anything else to the equation. ;)
SHigSpeed,.... Seems like the same problem could occur while casting (especially from a tube). All that line laying on the apron while shooting a cast.

This is actually intriguing. If you watch the video showing the basic use of the holder, it really looks it could be very useful, particularly when you need to re-rig your leader, or need both hands free for any reason.

Oh no, I'm not going to use the "system", I'll just simply lay the reel beside me in the seat and fish as usual. That silly reel seat adapter and the third arm would add too many ounces to my kit. ;)
The one thing that would concern me is that I've had my spool pop off with the reel attached to the rod which isn't an issue normally, but if the reel was free, I'd lose the body!!
heh...

Wouldn't "narwhal" be more appropriate? :)

Wow.. Might as well go Tenkara! Just don't get it, anything to try to make a buck on a new fad.

Humm...reminds me of the good old Popeil fishing rods. Perhaps it also comes with a vegetable chopper? :)

I've been making fun of the guy for years, finally after one too many trade show of watching him we got to talking. He's a nice guy, and it's a goofy idea. Not going to take the industry over, and I doubt I'll like it, but it sure as hell will be fun to embarrass my fishing bros with.

Just looked at that for the first time, like I really want stuff attached to my body. Maybe retro fit for people with disabilities, but I see no other use then a way for someone to make money of off rubes.
