Drizzled last night, expecting more today.
They say 6" of snow coming near weekend.
The midges disappeared yesterday with weather.
Water is very clear, and has dropped to 39 deg.
Low flows near town, better in the canyon.
Hardly anyone out.....
Midges, Skwallas, Micro May.
Saw a random Caddis yesterday, keep your eyes open.....
Good drifts are crucial now with these conditions.
Keep an eye out for Minks.
Hope you are getting out.

Thanks for the update Jim. I'm on the road the next week or two, so I'm using you as my "eyes in the sky" as it were. When I get back we should hunt around Hirschdale or Glenshire for some skwalas. I think its probably still a bit early, but you never know (It's pretty nice being the first to discover the yearly hatch of a bug.) Hope you're staying warm, talk to you soon. (in person at least)

First day testing my new Nomad net from Fish Pond! It works! Really love it!
( He ate a Skwalla nymph.....)
Never let a little winter get in the way.......

Dan, travel safe....
I think it's early for Skwallas as well.
But this ain't our normal year either....
Watched an American Dipper a couple days ago...
He was focused on eating.
He was doing a smash-it and wash drill I hadn't seen before.
Went over to his spot when he was done and seined.
Skwalla parts and nymphs in the net.
Always watch the birds.......

Duper.....thanks.
You have to get your own net....did I mention it floats?
But, that fish is still in the river..........
The wild fish are some of the Sac/McCloud strain I think.
They are as nice a fish as I've seen, and they are coloring up early this year.
Don't wait for Summer to fish......
The river might be a warm trickle later this year.

Don't fish out of seasonal habit (the way most anglers do) there is no such thing as normal in nature....
Every year is a bit different, and to fish well you need to change with it, hourly/daily/monthly/yearly.
It could still dump snow....but don't bet all your fishing on it.....

Back to rain today.....2-13-14
River is Green. 36-37.
River was dropping, down about 8" from yesterday, now rising......
20% chance next two days.....skip Fri. it's going to be a howler, gusts to 45mph in town, 100 on ridges!

Try a JUJU Baetis. sz18-20, Micro May, "Bird's nest" sz 20.
Sz 20 zebra midge is a pick. So is a Griffith's Gnat.
I've been serving a Gray/Green midge, black bead sz18-20 that they think is a sm free-ranging Caddis.

******Skwalla nymphs are moving into shallow near-shore water (near town), emergence is eminent.*********

Which means it's a good time to fish the nymph....sz8-10
Golden stone nymphs fairly active.
Aquatic annelids showing in the seine too....Lil fellers...1"or so.
Need to go check on the fish now......
Hope you guys are getting out!
