The flow in the American this morning is now below 1,000 cfs. Should make for an interesting opener on Wednesday...probably not so much for the steelhead.

The Bee this morning said that they are talking about dropping the flows to 800. Even with the 1000 cfs flows, I'd question the angling ethics of anyone fishing upstream of The Sunrise Bridge. Not enough water, exposed fish, and an awful lot of "sight fishing" with weighted leeches or similar patterns is tough to justify. I'd love to see a low flow closure for the upper river, but can't picture that happening.

And I'd love to see world peace. Lol!

the flows will be lowered to 800 cfs or less this week. i spoke with a water guy today he said the commission agreed to lower the flows immediately and will remain low untill the spring. They do not believe that water or snow will change anything. This will be done so that steelhead will not spawn in redds which will later be exposed.

But kill off the salmon redds? Time for Southern California to start up some desalination plants and start pumping from the ocean! Going to be a scary year come summer and next fall. Fire!!!

I've been fishing Folsom lately in my kayak and it is an incredible and extremely sad site to see when on the water.

In the two worst back to back dry years, 1976 & 1977 the flow in the American got to 250 cfs.

I remember those years well, my dad was farming in the Valley and we had to sink a couple of wells just to keep going. We were getting zero deliveries from the Delta Mendota Canal. Every since then we never did get our 100% allotment. This year we are at 5% of contract for delivery. Oh well nothing lasts forever especially anything touched by man.

Yep,.... Small farmers get hit heavily by/during drought while the large, corporate growers are somehow able to get the water they need/want. Hopefully, the new year will be wet and the initial allocation will be raised.

Is your father still actively farming with you?? If so, you're blessed.
