so my brother who lives in Leavenworth KS invited me out over Christmas to do some deep water bass fishing. I leave Christmas morning at 12:30 AM out of SFO and get to KS at 8:30 in the AM - will spend Christmas with his family then we drive 5+ hours to Table Rock Lake in Missouri to go bass fishing.

My brother is hard core!! I have attached a video link a guy filmed of Bob's technique - looks pretty fun - who says you can't sight fish at 60 feet!!!!!

Sounds Great... Table Rock is an awesome lake with smallies, largemouths and spots. I'm just down the road from Leavenworth visiting the folks and we got 6 inches of snow last night. If you have time try and stop in at a Lambert's for some home cookin' and the famous throwed rolls! Enjoy the trip!

Well just got back from my visit - we fished 3 days on Table Rock Lake on the White River in Missouri - weather first day started out at 19 with a high in the 40s but next 2 days were in high 20s for a low and low 50s for a high so really nice. My brother has a 21' bass boat with a 250 HP -pricey at around $60K so I don't feel so bad buying the occasional 2-handed rod!!! This baby can crank up to 65 mph - that can create some wind chill!!!

This is about the most exciting fishing I can think of!! I love sight fishing and this is the ultimate - we mostly used drop lines - a small lead sinker on the bottom with a bait up maybe 12" (typically a small shad imitation 3" long all tied to a swivel) his electronics is so sensitive you can see all three on the screen as you lower it down. Fish show up as streaks on the screen and you lower down (typically in the 40 to 70 foot range) to a fish you see - if interested, they often start heading up as you are lowering - you start reeling up slowly and they just charge the bait and you are on!!! Couple of shots of the screen showing fish

This shot shows reeling up to a fish at shallower depth trying to intercept

Also great for navigating when the fog rolls in - it came in once with almost 0 visibility

Fishing was slow the first day, picked up the second and last day three of us probably had 50 fish

Next time you might take him down below the dam for some fly fishing on 1 of the most prolific tailwaters in the country.

Ditto what Wade said. It would be hard for me to go down there and not hit up some of the best fly fishing for trout in the world. My buddy moved to Arkansas to work on duck calls. Pulled a brown around 15 pounds out of there on a rainbow trout streamer right below Tablerock. Still, seeing your brother and fishing with him in his environment is a pretty cool thing to do.

We have been going to the Yucatan last couple of years for baby tarpon and he is a fair fly fisher. I would have liked to hit the river but we were with a group of hard core bass guys so I became a bass guy for 3 days and enjoyed every minute of it!!

I'd like to get your brother on my boat for a day so he can show me how to work my simrad nss8. I can use some lessons on how to adjust my sonar :). Incidentally I saw that video posted on another board recently. Looks like you had a great time over there.
