Adventures in Pyrography...

Wikipedia... ""Pyrography is the art of decorating wood or other materials with burn marks resulting from the controlled application of a heated object. It is also known as wood burning. The term means "writing with fire", from the Greek pur (fire) and graphos (writing).[1] It can be practiced using specialized modern pyrography tools, or using a metal implement heated in a fire, or even sunlight concentrated with a magnifying lens.""

I have been offering some pretty cool custom engravings for customers' fly boxes. I decided to go a bit deeper and attempt a pretty serious portrait. The template I used was a photograph of a screaming bald eagle. I used the template to roughly outline the shape of the head and facial features. All the detail work is 100% freehand. I shot a video and condensed it to make it somewhat bareable to watch. What you are seeing is 4 1/2 hours of work condensed into a 2 1/2 minute video.

The platform is a 4x6" Hard maple flybox.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Is the smell of burning wood an aphrodisiac or hallucinogen? I can't sit still for 4 1/2 hours.
