Nice website. There's a great looking recipe for Conch Chowder in there. Gotta try it.

Back in my younger days, I always had a thing about spending time in(on) the Keys.
The past few months, I've been reading Tom Corcoran's Alex Rutledge series of books.
No fishing involved; just great crime fiction. I no longer want to drive down to the Keys.
Best,

I think the fishing in Florida is under rated.
They have warm fresh water with bass & panfish which is limitless.
There are lots of intercoastal brackish water ways with tons of fish.
We have small lush jungle rivers and creeks with black bass, snook & baby tarpon.
There are lots of clear fresh water springs in Florida.
Great beach/surf fishing.
Shallow offshore salt water is beautiful.
Then they have offshore blue water for all those wonderful big fish.
Houses are cheap plus no state sales tax. A second home is a good idea if you like tropical fly fishing.
There are lots of laid back communities full of friendly retirees from up north.
Lots of boats there......you see canoes, kayaks, Jon boats, small skiffs, bay boats, and long high powered off shore rockets too.
We have a small house at 702 Layport Ave, Sebastian, Florida......will be there soon......Jan/Feb/March.
You are profiled by the local fisherman by how many boats you have on your porperty. I have three......

JT,
After reading my post again, I should explain. Still think the Keys would be a great place to explore. I would fly
down and rent some wheels. The drive down sounds worse than the I-405 in Los Angeles.
Best to you,

Larry,
Depends on when you drive through Miami.... If you fly in around 9am and get your rental car by 10am and start the drive down it isn't too bad. Let me know if you want to explore the Lower Keys. I have been guiding down here for 20+ years and fish areas where I don't see another boat all day. The fishing is great and we offer full packages with lodging and meals included. My wife is a chef and cooks amazing meals for my clients. You can email, text or PM, if you have any interest. Thanks, JT

From Sebastian, FL it is about a 3 hours drive south to Miami and another 3 hours to Key West. We have driven there 3 times now and really enjoy the drive.
The entire coast of Florida has good fly fishing......it is all just a little different.
If you love traveling to the tropics for saltwater fly fishing you would enjoy having a small second home in Florida.
