Yes, this is a serious fly fishing question. Next week Jim May and I and our wives are heading to New Orleans again for another round of chasing redfish. Just got a report from our guide that they've also been getting big Jack Crevalle and some sharks too. But, we're really after redfish and some good eating along the way.

It seems every morning on our way going toward Hopedale we stop at a local hang out called Penny's. All the regular guides stop here for breakfast and to pick up some Poor-boys for lunch on the boat. It's right on the way to the fishing and is good simple food.

After fishing all day we head back to New Orleans, pick up the wives and head out for some more good eating. One of our favorite places is Deanie's. Here I'm holding up one of their BBQ's shrimp over a bowl of spicy gumbo.

Last year Don Memmer turned us on to one of his favorite places and we need to hear about a few more that shouldn't be missed.

What are some of your favorites down here?

I grew up there and rarely return, but when I do make it back I try to hit Parkway Tavern for the best po-boys in town, out in midcity by Bayou St. john. I would highly recommend Jacque-i-moe's for Creole cuisine, uptown..

Coop's Place...a dive with great food. For the other end of the spectrum, that is if you happen to imbibe, is go to The Sazerac Bar in The Roosevelt Hotel. A very historic, beautiful, and famous place where Huey Long used to hang out.

Aloha Tony I hope you let me make some recommendations again. Favorite oyster bar, Casemento's on Magazine, casamentosrestaurant.com Best crayfish bisque and other crayfish specialities the Bon Ton thebontoncafe.com Favorite gumbo the Napoleon House napoleonhouse.com They also make a mean muffalato and you must get a pimm's cup when there. I went to school and played football in the backyard of the Brennan's family who also own Commander's Palace, www.brennansneworleans.com They have a wonderful bannanas foster and a very good oyster's rockefeller, although mine is way better. Commander's has wonderful turtle soup and excellent soft shelled crab. www.commanderspalace.com I hope this helps you and Jim out. Get a hurricane at Pat O'Briens and sit in the courtyard and you will have a wonderful time when not chasing dem reds. You might get into some nasty drum as well maybe even a sheephead or two. Have fun and post a report and some pictures when you get back. Let the good times roll! Don

Well, it's a bit stereotypical, but I really like NOLA.
