Never got to meet him but heard lots of stories about him from my fly fishing friends of the Greatest Generation.

Don was an importer of fly tying materials back after WWII.

In those days there were few fly shops.

All the fly fishing and fly tying supplies were sold in hardware stores, sporting goods stores, and a part of some other business.

There was a tobacco shop in Stockton, CA run by Bill and Jean.

A bicycle shop in Sacramento on Folsom Blvd owned by Tom & Betty Light.

There was a shop in Santa Cruz that was tobbacco, cane rods and fly fishing and tying supples.

Simms Hardware on J steeet had some fly fishing supples.

Edwoldts Rod & Reel Repair had some equipment in North Sacramento.

I think I am going to write a history of all the shops in California who sold fly fishing stuff......

You can all help me.....especially the old timers here.
