First time in the Truckee Safeway. I thought it was interesting that they bred a specific breed and then colored them, and the final product looked a lot less appetizing than regular old farm-raised 'bows.

That's a genetic mutation that a hatchery capitalized on. They call them " Golden Rainbow Trout". I took a pic a few years ago of a display of them with a sign that read " California Golden Trout". I brought them a photo of a real Golden, the guy working the meat counter hung it up and next time I went in the sign was changed. Ed

]some call them "Lightning Trout" others, Palomino Trout. They are a hybrid and, as with most store trout, are grown along the Snake River in Idaho. They all have genetics tied to one trout, from years ago.

Funny thing is, they sometimes escape the trout farms. Then they live in the creeks and rivers below said farms. They are INCREDIBLY easy to see in the water, making one wonder why they don't get selected out by predation. The ones I have seen are huge, like 2-4 lbs easy. The fishermen target those fish when they see them, and get super stoked when they catch one.
