Yesterday afternoon caught and released my first steelhead of the season. Salmon just beginning to show in Middle Rogue. Took on a bead head nymph and about 21"s.

Gordon do you only nymp for the summers? Have you tried swinging some flies on the Rogue?

So far only nymphing but will do some swinging this season. Hard to leave nymphing as it is very deadly when fish are present.

Yes, but nothing like the grab on the swing! That's what it's all about.:D

Great job Gordon

Just try swinging flies in early and late in the lower light.

Al Perryman uses a light Spey rod, floating Scandi head, 15' leader and a #6 classic winged dark steelhead pattern on the Rogue.

You could use a sinktip and shorter 4' leader and leech type patterns.

Gordon,
Been waiting for your report. Did that last rain improve conditions? Looking forward
to more.
Best,

Larry, River went from 1,300 cfs to 2,400 cfs but a week later it is back to 1,300 cfs. Had a very cold morning but warmer temps for Thursday-Sunday which should make the fish more aggressive.
