What are they chasing when they come out of the water vertically? Spent part of the afternoon out there yesterday, landed 3 and lost a couple, on a caddis pupa, micro may, and birds nest. Good amount of activity and not a whole lot of people, pretty nice...

I think the rainbows are jumping for joy that there are a few big round peachy bugs floating down the river!! In conjunction this time of year you will see some pretty goood caddis hatches. Bill Lowe pretty much just uses dry flies at this time of year. Glossies and Hydropysche. Green to tan soft hackles are the best. For dry flies it is Cutter's E/C caddis, iris caddis and x caddis.

I sat and watched a huge set of salmon reds from a bluff above the bridge yesterday while waiting to get my driftboat trailer towed as one of my wheel bearing blew out and saw trout jumping out of the water like you are talking about as salmon chased them out of their reds. Pretty cool to watch. There is a ton of salmon spawning up above the bridge.
