Just got back from a great 4 day float down the lower Rogue river. Unfortunately, this was a working trip for me so fishing was not the main focus. Still I did manage to sneak out for about an hour in the morning twice, and twice in the early evening as well. With very little time, swinging smallish sized wet flies I managed to land about a half dozen nice sized 1/2 pounders, had plenty more tugs, and lost several more fish including a good sized adult steelie. Not bad considering I was mostly hoping for some practice spey casting and hoped at a chance hook up or two :D

I get the feeling that the half pounders must just be thick in some of those runs, just wish I could have fished a lot more of them. So much good water to fish... so little time. If you have the time, I'd highly recommend a trip up there now

Nice Jason...you have had an abundance of great fishing lately :) How's work? Slowing down at all yet? Let me know when you might be able to get out for a weekend...as until Thansgiving, that's all I've got. Either way, let's catch up. I need to hear all about the second week of your AK adventures.

Yeah, I have been fortunate in many ways there (as you know). Work is slowing down, but weekends are petty well occupied for a bit at lest. We might need to get out a few times to even begin to do justice to that AK trip... you just will not believe some things :)
Far better than I could have imagined!

Jason,

At the end of this month, I will be going to fish either the Klamath or the Rogue. Right now, based on the flows, I will probably head up to the Rogue. I have a jet sled and will use that go get around.

What stretch of the Rogue do you think will fish the best at the end of the month? I'm interested in swinging flies for the half pounders.

Thanks,

Craig

I think October is my favorite month for swinging flies for Steelhead.

It is not too hot and not too cold....yet.

The Klamath and Rogue Rivers are the closest for me.

For some family reasons this fall is not going to be a good one for SH for me.

Maybe just local on the Lower American River.

Let us know if you need help planning a trip.

Our staff are all going steelheading this time of year so I have to work at the shop.
