More than likely headed to Corpus Christi this week for work. I might find some time for wade fishing the flats near there. Booking a guide will probably be out of the question due to scheduling (there is none I get off when and if I'm not needed so I can't book in advance).
I'm looking for some direction for speckled trout and redfish. I'll have a car but not a lot of time for driving.
Any information would be much appreciated. I think my timing is OK late summer and fall should be good.
Taking a fast 7wt rod, floating line and a stripping basket.

Not much to offer from me. One of the members of this BB is Brett Humphries who lives/guides in Texas. His website is: http://www.hillcountryflyfishing.com . Telephone no. 512-470-6886. You might try to get some info from him....

Good luck down there.

That is my old stomping grounds...try at the Fish Pass - small jetties between Corpus and Port A, fish wading in the surf on the Port Aransas side and there is a great chance for skipjack, specks, whiting, small reds,etc...with some small snook occasionally roaming those jetties. The surf anywhere around Corpus is a good bet,AND driving down towards S.Padre island from Corpus towards Big Shell(driving on the beach!!) will give you miles of "hit and run" fishing...look for birds ,weedlines washing ashore(kingfish will follow them to the 2nd sandbar!)riptides,pinches,etc...

You can scope out(research) our TX. catch and release shark fishing crew @extremecoast.com!--look for mssge board posts titled-PINS..(Padre Island National Seashore).these pertain to the 40 miles of beach driving/fishing as you leave Corpus on the beach heading south towards the King Ranch,etc...A 4X4 is needed as you get near Big Shell . The best advice I can give you is fish a spot/ drive a mile or so on the beach looking for something "fishy" and try again...

Reds can be found anywhere in the bays where the deep water meets the shallows....take diving booties and be prepared to walk a lot for sight fishing/hunting at daybreak!--Good luck!

Thank you,
I fished the flats and beach at Mustang. It has been very windy and a few lightning storms. I managed one speckeled trout and a few ladyfish.
This is beautiful area and I plan on returning as soon as I can.
