Smoke on the water (The good kind.).
FROST this morning..........
Gusty winds in the afternoons lately.
Best fishing is dawn patrol for my money.
Good from the very first drift.....
I will say, that yesterday I fished the whole day, still slows a little mid-afternoon, but caught them anyway.
Don't mess around, they are pretty spooky/hip. (And gun-fighter fast...........> Wa..Was that a fish?)
It took two drifts this morning..... a nice Bow ate a sz 20 BWO emerger, sunken.
59-60 degrees and green/clear.
Water "master" is starting to drop the flows..... reduced from Tahoe, and Donner both....
Wouldn't call it boney yet, but stay tuned.......
Not many risers to speak of during the day.
Bring a nice selection of split shot; #6 thru ABs.
Use them liberally......
Golden stones are about done.
Crays are about still.
Isonychia are coming on. sz 12-14.
Small Dark Baetis sz 20-22.
A few BWOs early, or if it clouds up. 16-18-20
Oct. Caddis are starting....I've seen two-three of them. Think big Pupa baby.....you could try an orange stimi sz 8-10 at dusk.
Some Glosasoma Too. Tan Elk hair Caddis in sz 18.
Light-Tan midges sz 22-24 are off the hook, as the light hits the water.
Hoppers in the PM if you can handle the breeze.
A good number of fry in shallows, sz 8 thru 2. (This bodes well for next year.)
A few rises evenings, but very short window around 7:30-8:00.
PM H2O temp close to 65 still, but fishable, nothing like it was........
Czech nymping is a good call in the bubbles.
Or, get your streamer game honed for Mr. Brown.
It's about time for Fall fishing.
Next weekend is looking good......
Have fun out there......
Jim
