I have had the pleasure of testing a couple new packs and bags from Umpqua Feather Merchants this year.
While running the Reno Fly Shop for 10 years I had a lot of experience trying out new gear and seeing a lot of products. The new packs and bags from Umpqua are some of the best I have seen.
I am not a vest person and have not owned one for over 8 years. I would much rather use a waist pack (fanny pack). Because of this I am constantly looking for a better one and testing out new ones. I have been using the Umpqua Ledges 650 Waist Pack for a few weeks now and it is the best one I have ever used. The suspended back panel allows this pack to ride high around your waist and allows me to wade deeper without getting the pack wet. I have been using Fishpond for years and I have had a problem with them riding low and getting my gear wet. The new Umpqua pack rides a lot higher. It has tons of room and some really well thought out pockets. If you are a waist pack person I highly reccomend you check out the Ledges 500 and the Ledges 650 from Umpqua.
I also have the new Boat Bag and I really like it as well. If the other packs in the new line are anything like the two I have used then they will also be worth a look.
