I have been working on wood engraving on my fly boxes and wanted to share a couple here :)

I upgraded my pyrography set to a pro grade set and man! What a difference! Precision tips and a wide range of temperature control. Theres almost no limit to what can be accomplished. I find a picture online and print it to size, then carbon the outline onto the wood. After that I fill it in freehand with markings and shading.

Anyway, it was time to make a box for BIG flies for myself, and I had a couple gift boxes to make.

I posted another thread with a huge box I was working on. I finally got the finishing hardware for the beast. I think its a nice touch for a display box.

Those are fantastic! Would like to see one with striper, of sourse.

Charlie. A striper would be fun to do. What size flybox would you recommend? The box with the Musky is 5x9"

Have you tried to make one that is still a box...but looks like a frame, With a piece of glass in the front?
THat way one could show case those huge flies that classify as art.

I actually have been kicking this around. Pretty much exactly as you described. I think the window should be acrylic... broken glass sucks. I also want to do a display box that, when open has a picture frame on one side and fly storage on the other. It would be for displaying your hero shot along with the fly/flies responsible

That muskee is fantastic, Jay. Almost lazer like detail. Capturing the highlight reflection along the back of the fish is especially nice.

Aloha Jay, I still think you should do a Leinenkugel's label on one of the boxes. I am back in school now and my friend said he would send you photos of the koa wood and the monkey pod he has. I think theres no limit to the cool ideas that can be burned onto a flybox. Anything from fishing scenes to beer labels :) to sports team logos...stream maps, you naame it.
