I was hoping to get some info on a set up I came across and couldn't pass up on. I can't find any info on the rod. The reel I found, is no longer supported by the Mfg. though was a good reel at the time for the money and size. Anyways its an Able SF 9010-3 with Teton 9-11 spooled w/ a clear fly line. I the guy I got it from, planned on using it for sail fish I believe, but never made it.

Any one have any experience with this rod? It looks like it's only been lawn cast maybe? No soil on the grip the cork looks pristine still hazy. What would you use this set up for? I was thinking of keeping for a just in case scenario. But I may be open for a trade. 6 - 8wt 9'+.

Able SF 9010-3 - 9' 10wt 3pc. New Condition w/ Able Rod Case Square

Teton 9-11 Reel loaded w/ clear fly line 10 wt. New w/ Box

Just looking for thoughts It really is a pretty rod and a nice set up.

I may move this to the classified section after a few days or responses.

Thanks

I have an Abel rod, the exact rod you're talking about. Except my rod in a 8' 9" rod. I broke off 3" of the tip and had to add a tip top to the section. I sent the rod back to Abel, hoping that they could fix it but after a few weeks I was notified that since they no longer made rods they had no way of repairing the rod. So I asked if they could add the tip top and they said "no problem". The rod is definitely a fast rod and being 3" shorter it makes it even faster. A good rod with a lot of back bone for lifting

As Jay Says, Abels are fast action with plenty of backbone. I have an Abel Xtreme, 8 weight, 4 pc rod. It casts a full WF9F, Redfish line like a dream. Of course, that's on grass ad without wind. I'll be using at Turneffe Flats for Barracuda/Bones/Permit very soon. Yours is definitely a Striper or saltwater rod.

Thanks for the responses, that confirms what I was feeling, I guess I'll see if I can find a used line and start casting it. I just hope to find a good use for it sooner than latter. My 8 wt is as heavy as I've been fishing so far in the surf.

Thanks again.
