Hey Tim -

I haven't utilized a vest since 1978...and I have utilized hip packs, some of which in recent years have been quite good. A few companies have even been kind enough to add features to the hip packs just for me.

Nevertheless, I have found the Patagonia Sling pack to be absolutely the best possible option...I have more fly boxes in my Sling than I could ever fit in my best medium size hip packs. More importantly, I can wade as deep as my waders allow without soaking my fly boxes.

Thank you for the heads up! My envious fly fishing partner will now be able to pick up his own Sling.

Take Care,

Bob

Hi K9 -

I just took a look at the Umpqua Bags...very nice! Are you "eyeballing" the hip or chest version of the pack.

Thank You,

Bob

Bought one of the Patagonia Slings it was a great investment was using the Fishpond Guide pack before...The Sling is a very well thought out piece of gear. It's just very confortable and organizes and holds a lot of gear without being bulky. Talked with the Rep up at Ted Fay's last week while fishing Upper Sac...Can't wait for them to bring the Trout Sling out next year then I can dedicate this one to the switch rod on the rivers.

I've been using the Umpqua 650 waist pack this season and really like it. It's the only pack that I am familiar with that has a frame that keeps it away from your body. The light colored inner liner makes finding small items easier in low light conditions. Quality product!

Just got the umqua ledges 500 waist pack and it Is so comfortable. I tried a fishpound and a simms on, but umqua nailed It with this pack. Loaded up my stuff and no sag. Very happy with my purchase.

I bought one of those slings from you guys and it is the best pack I have ever used. IMHO it beats any low hanging hip pack you could make......so comfortable and hold more gear than you would need in a day. Best thing is it rides high on your back making it easy to keep gear dry when wading.....hold a water bottle as well......Love that bag.....

I'm using a Simms headwaters waist pack and what I really don't like is the pathetic little bottle holder that is worse than useless...I've lost countless bottles out of it. Also it would be great if they put a couple of D rings on it especially one on the shoulder strap for a net. How does this sling compare?

If you would like, I have an extra Patagonia Sling that you can borrow and try out.

If interested, just give me a call (916)715-3058. I live in Sacramento.

I'm interested in this pack as well and have a couple questions
I like how there is a D-ring on the back and was wondering if anyone has used a net with this pack? Also is this pack built to wear universally? Say over either shoulder? Like for a lefty? Or is it designed around a right hander? I don't know if it would make a difference being left handed as to how a lefty would sling it so I thought I would ask. Probably best to head to Kienes and try it on before I buy it but just gathering any info before I head in to the shop.

I bought Orvis Guide pack this season, only used handful times so far but really like it.

Have to say I was influenced in buying the Orvis version to show support for the company as I really enjoy Tom Rosenbauers podcasts, may be also out of guilt about buying higher cost items online for lower prices (probably one of the reasons that brick & mortar stores are closing).
