Made my first trip to the local river this weekend. It’s been almost a year since I’ve set foot in this river. I was pleasantly surprised that she gave up some decent fish despite the long absence.
Got a nice 8-inch dink on my second cast. All was well. A few yards further downstream and felt a nice thump…no hook-up. Re-cast and got another thump after a couple of strips. No long runs, just deep dives that bent my 8wt to the cork.
Nice 10.5lb chunker:

Also found some feisty schoolies with more dinks mixed in:

Back home in time to have breakfast with the kids. Gotta love it.

Yeah, I didn't make it out even once this season Aron. Maybe next year.

Sweet! Thanks for the motivation. I just took my clubs striper clinic that Andy gave last week and plan to wade a couple runs this evening for the first time.

Spent a few mornings earlier this week chasing some stripes. They are around, but scattered. Had to cover lots of water. No hot spots to speak of; just make a bunch of casts to all good holding water and you'll eventually run into a few.

Hooked-up:

Nice schoolie to hand:

Most fish are from dinks to 3-4 lbs.
But you'll eventually run into some nicer fish that will give you and your tackle a good workout:

Not a bad way to spend a couple of hours in the morning before taking shelter from the heat.

With the riparian growth next to the river its like a whole different world. Makes for a bit of solitude while pursuing the linesides. That commute to the water has got to be killing you! As always great pics. Maybe you could be a model for a sports wear company,Redington? Orvis? Just a thought.
Happy 4th to all, and we are blessed to be able to do the things we do.
