Fished EC on Thursday. Parked at Hangmans bridge and hiked down to Gage hole, then fished back up to where Markleeville Creek comes in. Started fishing at 7am, wind started blowing by 8am. Water temp at 11am was 56F, we wet waded and it was a little cool with the wind. We were back at vehicle by 1pm.

Flows were around 320cfs and could only see 2-3ft into the water when we started. Clarity seemed to improve as we fished. River was still clearing from storms earlier in the week and should be in great shape this weekend. Did not see anybody else while we were fishing. Saw a lot of people on river above Hangmans along the road.

Caddis are definitely active, saw a few rises in first run. Big wind soon wiped out any hopes of dry fly so nymphing and streamers all morning. Seine samples turned up plenty of dark clinger type nymphs from size 10-16, some truly big stonefly nymphs sz 4-6. Saw some stonefly husks floating in the water, but none on the rocks, also turned up a small crayfish. Only caddis were green rockworms.

Fishing was tough and best action came on streamers. Got 3 10-12 inch stockers on streamers and another stocker on a scuddadis nymph. Caught what looked like a small cuttie nymphing. Friend never landed a fish, but had hits on streamers and a couple hook ups that came off. Usually get some wild fish, but none this trip.

River flows are dropping fast and river seems to just be coming into prime shape. Going to be tough water conditions in late summer, fish the EC early!
