FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

June 7, 2013 (Idaho Falls, Idaho) – RIO Products, manufacturer of fly lines, leaders and tippet material, is proud to announce the release of the RIO Perception trout line; offering unprecedented casting control and instantaneous feel.

The RIO Perception is a revolutionary floating line that helps trout anglers connect with more fish than ever before. Built with ultra-low stretch ConnectCore Technology, the RIO Perception lines provide pioneering levels of sensitivity for intuitively better cast timing, easier line lift and sharp, precise mends. Lack of stretch also means enhanced detection of subtle takes and significantly reduced reaction time when setting the hook.

The exclusive SureFire tri-color system improves casting accuracy by making it easy to gauge exact distances with a quick glance. RIO Perception lines feature MaxCast hydrophobic coating, MaxFloat Tip technology and AgentX slickening formula. It all adds up to improved casting, better fishing and most importantly, more fish.

RIO Perception lines are available in WF3F through WF8F in both light green/camo/tan and camo/tan/gray color options, and with a recommended retail price of $89.95.

RIO Perception – the trout line redefined.

I am getting old, cheap, or both and I am not 40. In 1995 I remember paying 44 dollars for the cortland 444sl laser line. I still think the pink 333 was a good line in the low 30s. I got 3 colleges to pay for. Will be posting something on the classifieds soon (jk). Seriously though, has inflation increased 100 percent in 18 years; I suppose its possible.

I concur. The "technology" and equipment used are roughly the same - apart from a few improvements, but nothing major, really. I can't see a single thing that could justify these shockingly high prices. It's not space technology nor Nobel prize chemistry. It's just "plastic".
How much do these lines cost to produce, anyway?
I am quite happy with an SA Supra (and was perfectly pleased with the Ultra) DT and can't imagine I could do better with any new supposedly high tech model, as far as trout fishing goes. I just make sure to cut the integrated loop off and nail knot my leader butt. A microscopic drop of UV knot sense to seal the tip of the line, and I've got a perfectly straight tip with a customized leader. I can't see how one can perform any precision cast with the kinky integrated loop on; beats me.
Let's keep it simple and , please, affordable.

Funny you should mention that. One of the largest consumers of the new technology we're using in the Perception line: NASA. The chemistry our plastics engineers put into our top shelf lines has very little in common with the lines of the past. It's hard to explain because much of the manufacturing process is proprietary and top secret, but innovation and technology is exactly what is driving the price, not lack thereof.

the price increase for these lines is a rounding error in the price of a rod or reel ......seriously how many people say they will not buy a rod because it is $890 vs $870 .... or $395 vs $370

a little perspective

Simple fact -

Companies (nope , not just Rio ...) charge what percentage 'X' will pay , and market the crap out of whatever product it is .

Rods/Reels/Flylines are TOOLS , not magical implements - if you really believe that an $800.00 Rod/$90.00 flyline will get you more Fish , distance , whatever .... by all means , please buy it . If you really want more Fish , distance , whatever .... practice and go fishing more . As the owner and user of too many flylines (old ones , top o' the line ones , etc.) , I've accepted their limitations and strong points . That said , I would never pay the current prices .

Congratulations on the new fly line Aaron. Please post any reviews or observations you find with this new line. Always eager to learn of new products. Way to go and thanks for posting here!!
Maybe you could send one to one of the trout fishers at Kienes so they can try it out.
