Especially at the lower elevations, it is best to fish early and late in the day for the best results.

Some once told me that fishing during the most comfortable time of day was a good idea too.

Summer it is nicer early and alte.

Winter it is nicer mid-day at times.

Just some ideas...........

Spot on Bill! The Middle Fork Feather is already reaching 68 degrees in the afternoon, and this is below where Jamison creek dumps in! It felt like mid July last Saturday on my trip there.

This Summer will be brutal on the fish with warm water temps and extremely low water levels. Anglers should look for rivers and creeks that have heavy cover and plenty of shade, springs, or tailwaters; which all provide cooler water temps.

Great advice Bill, thanks for sharing. With the unseasonably warm weather we have moved into a summer pattern this week on our local rivers in the shadow of Shasta, we typically don' see the shift to a morning/ evening pattern until late June or July, certainly not in recent high (cold) water years.
With low clear water trout have also seen a number of anglers and patterns by now so maximum stealth and fishing a good immitation that is also a bit off the "hot list" can also help. Bet the shop has a few patterns that might do nicely?
