Spent a couple of days on the lower Sac over the weekend. Heres how it went.
Friday 5/24 I had Trevor and his father John from Red Bluff in the boat. Pretty cool to see a father and son out enjoying a day together. Both had not done much fly fishing before and had never fished from a drift boat. We hooked fish from the very first cast, LITERALY ! They hooked many more through the day but only managed one to the net. The transition from spinning gear to fly fishing can be tough, a lot of bad habits that need to be broken. All in all they had a great day together and thats what was important to them so we are all happy. Hot bugs- Caddis and PMDs pretty much all day.
Saturday 5/25 I had Nick from Redding with me. He has recently purchased a drift boat of his own and although he has no problem running his boat and using gear for salmon on the Trinity he has been out several times on the Lower Sac with no success. We spent the day together and I was able to help break the river down for him and help him with some bug selection and techniques. Nick did well , again we were into fish from the first cast. I expect Nick will be doing much better when he fishes on his own from now on. Hot bugs - Caddis and PMDs all day long. Fish the riffles !!!!
