Did some recon down in the canyon on Saturday. Parked at Floriston and hoofed it up the tracks past Mystic to the trestle and fished back down. Needless to say, at 880cfs, the river in the canyon was big......but very fishable. Water was pretty cold though.
Saw a total of maybe 3 bugs all day, but it was pretty windy. Did see a big golden stone crawling out of the river. Between the two of us, we only managed 7 fish (3 browns/4 bows). Most were small, around 11". Did get one brown around 16" or so. But the Truckee toads were not to be found that day.
It's mostly indo fishing down there now with the high water. Did a little high-sticking on the edges and in buckets. Dredging streamers probably would've been a good idea, but I never changed rigs.
So, anyway.....I'm no expert on the Truckee, but I'd say a couple weeks and it should really start poppin' down in the canyon.
