Hello there. I'm heading to fish the Green in mid June for a couple days. I may have several hours to half-day to fish the Provo on my way in or out from the Green. Never fished the Provo but am tempted to wet a fly on the middle section between Jordanelle and Deer Creek Resevoirs or in the canyon below Deer Creek. Anyone ever fished this area and have any words of wisdom re difficulty, crowds, scenic beauty, access? It will be either a Thursday or a Sunday. Thanks!

Hey Pupa,

It has been about 5 years since I have fished the Provo, but it would be worth fishing it. It was one of the best Brown Trout Fisheries I have ever fished. The stretch below Jordanelle was good. We caught many fish from 14 to 20+ inch fish. I fished it closer to August, but size 14 E/C Caddis was the pattern, the last hour before dark was really fun. Also my biggest fish was on a 14 scud. The scuds they sold us were 18's and 20's, but the one I used was bigger in gray. I watched another angler land a 6-8lb. fish under the first bridge below Jordanelle. Here are two shops that helped me when I was there, the first one is in Park City and the second is in Heber City. I also fished the Lower Provo towards the end of the canyon and there was lots of fish, but mostly smaller.

We fished with a guide out of TroutBum2 when we were there in the fall a few years back for a football game. Plane home was late Sunday so we spent a half-day fishing. But we didn't fish the Provo and instead hit Weber creek. Fantastic fishing that day and a great guide.

Thanks for the great info guys. I am looking forward to hitting some new water and getting into some brown action. I grew up fishing PA water and have a soft spot for these fish. I rarely get a chance in CA to hook into a brown, except for occasionally the McCloud or Truckee - although I did land a freak 22" loch leven once on Pit 3 stripping in a hare's ear after a rain storm. I'll post upon my return.

Since we have a early spring it may be worth while to have some green drakes. We have fished the Provo for the last 5 or 6 years and never timed the hatch right yet. I am bad with streets but can give you a couple spot that the guys at the 4 season shop can give you directions. http://www.utahflyfish.com/

Chocho Section: Its down the street from the fly shop and you cross the river and turn left and park by the train tracks. Its about a 1/4 mile down the tracks to the tressel bridge. You can head up or down stream. only fished up and hooked some toads.

Indian Head Section. Also down the road from the shop and turn right before you cross the river. There is a parking lot with bathroom. You will pass a awesome Indian carved out of a tree. Head up stream.. May have to do some bush wacking. Try to go up past the car in the river.

There a couple more access points on the way to Heber from Jordanelle. I can't remember the street but it's a big intersection with a light and you turn right when heading down from Park City. There will be two nice access points one on the left and one on the right.. Nice parking lots with bathrooms. Again the shop should know the area I am talking about.

Don't be afraid to throw some streamers.. Drys are good too. Camped at Jordanelle once and it was very nice

Good Luck Jet.
