Fished yesterday early am to as overheated as we could take it (4:30pm). Saw some early day crashers but had no luck on hookups. Hooked one large fish around 4pm that took lots of line and stayed deep...unfortunately ended up with an LDR after a few minutes of battle. Saw a few large (20-30lbs) fish cruising the edges, which was great to see.
Also saw one large striper bagged by a couple anglers that were fishing shad. They took her on live bait (shad).
Fished shad for a couple hours and manages a few big fish to the boat...all in the 3-5lbs range. They would not touch flies, but were quick to eat grub tail jigs.
Good luck out there! Also, please consider releasing the big stripers for the sake of future fishery. You shouldn't consume them anyway. The big fish have enough contaminants in then to light up your kidneys and act as birth control.
