Going to Alaska to fish the Branch River also known as the Alagnak. Any recommendations for flies to carry? Will be there August 17 through the 24th. We will be in the Katmai National Forewest and we look forward to meeting some fishing partners (Brown Bear).

I've not fished the Alagnak. But beads, flesh and Dolly Llamas in Blk/wht, puple/wht, olive and white should work well. Might even try some mice..but at that time of year they will really be on the eggs.

I've floated it twice that time of year. You picked an odd numbered year to do it, that means less pinks so the rainbow fishing will be better. You'll see some bear, but most of them will be up on the tribs (Moraine, Funnel, American).

Like others have said, carry some flesh flies, cotton candy, battle creek specials, and a good variety of beads.

If you are unguided, spend some time at the drop off spot on Nonvianuk Lake. Hike down the river, lots of good trout habitat.

PM if you are unguided and want more info.

On edit. Don't forget black leeches, white leeches and sculpins.
