Thought I'd give a fresh report.....Phone is ringing, I'm starting to run...
Beautiful days up here. T-shirt/shorts...
Flows are coming down, color is green/clear.
Temps still doing a swing 50ish in the AM.
warmer mid day, then slowly drops.
Mid-mornings are best.
A small blizzard of Baetis, with a smattering of March browns.
Saw a Skwalla yesterday....
No flying Ants yet. but it has to start soon.
Hate to give them press, but Midges still feeding trout.
Small is safe for them.
Clients have been doing well, fish are spunky this time of year.
The guy yesterday landed 8. All under an indy.
Not a nose to be seen.
Unless you only throw a dry..........I'd start fishing soon.
This season will be tough later on.
Thought I'd add, the locals would be glad to have you up.
It's going to be a long shoulder season......

A couple more things....
The LT has some fish on reds. Please stay the hell off them, OK?
We can fish when they're done.....It's an ethical thing and may (will) incite locals...
Only someone with a deep-seated need to be a fish hero does this.
Quite the contrary is the impression....
There are signs posted by TU, to help avoid this stretch.
Thanks for your support.
The fishery will repay us later.
Secondly, the local lakes are happening early, with risers to Midges, and some smallish Calibeatis.
Spent a few mornings out, and did a cocktail cruise (as in time of day) that was very pleasant.
It's finally Spring, enjoy.

If my jet lag is gone by 7am il be headin up in the am.
Maybe I'll see ya wandering the river Jim.
I'll sure miss walkn those sandy beaches of Roatan barefoot tho.
But the T is a great place to allow me to remember where I live is also a wonderful gem.
A great time of year for that afternoon lunch w/ a couple beers on the banks.
If I can treat my 5wt to bonefish and wild trout in the same week Im sure it will be a happy rod :)

Fished it yesterday for less than 2 hours (I spent the day in the area with my wife celebrating our wedding anniversary with a nice drive through the Sierra's and just happend to pass by this area with my fly rod and vest in the trunk of the Mercedes... at 4pm! Wasn't stupid enough to pack the waders, but smart enough to wear waterproof hiking boots. Waders wouldn't have been coincidental, but misplacing the fly rod and vest in the trunk... ;))

Fished from the bank. Discovered that by not having waders, you have to plan your approach a little better and be a little more creative, but it forced me to think about how I was going to fish a spot and forced me to fish it differently that I might have otherwise fished it. It can be done and I didn't feel I was at much of a disadvantage.

Very busy, nice evening hatch, no risers, lost a really nice brown after a brief 10 second battle.

Thanks for the reminder, Jim, the signs are indeed obvious.

Nice report as always Jim. Just got home from a few fantastic days fishing that great river up north, and the hatches were quite prolific and diverse as well. Spring is indeed in full swing. I'm still needing to settle up with that skunk up your way, maybe if I came offering up beer he might leave me alone.

By the way I've finally started to catch on to those little pearls of wisdom that you've been putting in your signatures. Took me a bit to figure out that you've been changing them up, this last one is a really good one!
Cheers, and try not to work too hard

Spring is a bit early, and in full swing.
The river is fishing better every week.
Color is green/clear, and flows wade-able. Higher 50s.
Bunches of Baetis....
A few March browns. (Fish the nymph.)
Midges, midges, etc....
No Ants yet...
Very few noses showing...carry a dry rod rigged in case, with MB.
Had a client hook up on a sz20 cream-Caddis emerger, well drowned...
Fish have moved into faster water.
Broke off a toad yesterday.....grrrrrr.
Hope you're getting out.

Had a nice reunion with the Truckee on Sunday. Midges early. A spattering of various different hatches but nothing substantial. The March Brown hatch did arrive, kind of, but was very light and only lasted about 45 minutes. No noses shown and couldn't get but one very nice 19" rainbow on a swung MB soft hackle. Lots of other love but no single bug that I caught fish on was singled out. Got some good love on a non insect offering though that kept me busy! Only saw two other anglers all day and they were together. Ended the day getting broke off by a toad. Pride said keep fishing, my tired and sore body said you've had a very good day, go home and crack a cold beer...and so I did.

Exciting to see so many bugs active and on the menu! Keeps us on our toes lol!

Weather is blue sky...river is up to the edge of the grass....and dropping.
Flows are green/clear, 54 deg. early and late.
Baetis are still around, along with BWOs if a cloud passes, an occasional March brown.
Tricos have shown up, and some sz 18 cream Caddis.
Crane flies started popping yesterday. Little yellow bugs ascending....
Nymph it up....these guys are under-fished....
I thought warm temps last week, would trigger the Carpenter Ant emergence.
It's warm again........
The upper river is open....and very nice.
In fact, it's all good.....

News flash........The Ants have flown.........Repeat....The Ants have flown.
Tie them, buy them, but fish them soon......

Went out for a quick fix.....
Second drift, hooked up.....That's a quick fix...

Wooha baby!
Folks have discovered it's time to fish...
I knew it all along...

Flows are about perfect.
Near 60 and clear/green.
It's starting to go earlier and later...that's to say high noon is a little tougher.
I have been slowly moving to explore the middle, and a little lower in the canyon.
Bring a big stick, and some ABs at least....
Have seen several fish get away because of poor play.
Set down-stream, SET DOWN-STREAM!
And then, run with them.
They are good...you need to be too.
See you on the water.

Edit, same day...
Flash.....rising fish!
May not seeem a big deal on your water, but on the T, it's a joy....
It means it is game-on from here until the water warms too much.
I sat next to them for an hour...3 rose...to March Browns.
Even though the water was crystal clear, they were invisible till they came up.
Several people walked by while I was sitting zafish, most were in a hurry.
Sloooow down, and find a fish....then catch them.
You can use a dry....

More....Had a friend turn a VLF (very large fish) on a March brown dry yesterday. Game on.....
