In past draught years when the Sacramento, Feather, Yuba and American Rivers are running low, like now, we had been able to wade at the sand bar at the mouth of the Feather River for Shad and Stripers.
Be very careful because you can walk right off the end of those sand bars into deep water.
I would be wearing a floatation devise.
We fish from anchored boats there too.
My old fishing partner, Cecil "Junior" Wilder, from West Sac, brought a camp stove one night and we ate fresh Shad roe right on the beach. It was very good......
He smoked the big female Shad that we caught too.
