John H from the San Diego Fly Shop in Solana Beach tells me of walking the beach early morning on Sanibel
Island when the snook are within 6 feet or so of the shore. Whitish fly is a killer. Think it's this time of year.
As soon as the tourists hit the beach the snook depart.

Walking the beach is better in the summer. Especially on the lower East Coast of Fl but even for the lower West Coast where Sanibel is located. a little South of Sanibel (10,000 Islands) is better than Sanibel. However, that is all from a boat. I have caught a lot of Snook and while they are a great gamefish Stripers fight harder.

Snook are all about the 1st 30-60 seconds of the fight. They fade fairly quickly. Granted, i have not caught any on fly over 20 lbs. so maybe bigger ones have more endurance.

I know this is politically incorrect to say in some flyfishing circles but the best tasting fish you will ever eat.
