For the last few weeks we’ve been waiting for something to happen. Last Friday (Good Friday) a fresh school came in and it was incredible. The next morning they were gone. They had moved overnight. Up ? Down ? Who knows? Over the weekend we got a ton of rain and the water came up and murked up and the bite shut off. Whenever there is a change in flows it seems to change the comfort level for the fish and they don’t eat like they did before the change.
We went out yesterday evening and picked up a couple but nothing to brag about. This morning we started out again early (very dark) and the first thing we saw was a wake the size of a submarine chasing bait. With the water being high again we head downstream to our first stop. Bingo! First or second cast fish on. We move to another stop and Bob’s hooked up right away. Repeat the drift and do it again, Bingo again. (that’s my favorite saying when I hook-up).
We moved several more times looking for schools but the fish are scattered. Hopefully this fresh rain will trigger more fish to move in. Over on the SAC the water has really come up and they’re getting fish at Verona and Knights Landing. They’re on their way.
Here a few of pictures from the last couple of mornings.
