Taking the day tomorrow to go get out on the water. If you had the choice, would you go to the American (Rossmor to Watt Ave), or the low flow section of the Feather around Oroville. I'm walking/wading and bringing my spey and SH rod.

Thanks for the advice on such short notice.

I would recommend the Feather, there's more fish in the Feather right now. Try some olive midges, and possibly a few caddis patterns.

Awesome. Thanks.

The low flow is at 1750 CFS. Be very careful wading!

Went to the Feather. Wading was indeed a challenge. Glad I brought the spey rod, but even then...getting out far enough to make a decent spey cast was difficult and limited access. In the end I got skunked. I saw fish jumping, but I couldn't convince anything to take what I had to offer. I swung small nymphs, soft hackles, midges, caddis, poopahs with the spey, tried indicator nymphing with eg patterns and san juan worm droppers up by the hatchery, and swung dries in the evening down by the Thermolito afterbay outflow...no luck...noway, nowhere, nohow...dang:confused:

Your right and Lincoln is too. I do allot of drifts on the Feather - I like getting my folks out and wading. Super dangerous to wade. I been pushing everyone over to the Lower Sac. It's wadable and the fishing is super good.

Heh. We took the opposite gamble on Wednesday and waded several spots on the Lower Sac instead of the Feather and got royally skunked.

I'll add that after many hours of fishing above Sundial and then below Bonnyview, we returned to Turtle Bay to try the runs above the Cypress Bridge. Trooping along with I-won't-guess-how-much-it-cost sophisticated fly gear we observed a 20-something woman in gym shorts and flip-flops with a hot-pink tackle box and spin rod, departing the gravel bars below Sundial with an enormous rainbow trout on her stringer. Thus inspired, we spent another 2 or 3 fishless hours fly casting in a variety of traditional and time-tested styles.

I drifted Bonney to Anderson and it was really good. The fish are held up in the slower deeper water getting ready to spawn. We landed fish from 14-25 inches long.

Top flies - Brown Rubberlegs Size 6, Black Bird's nest Size 12, Gray's X-May Olive and Red Size 16 and my new black caddis that I have been fishing.
