I recently acquired an Endure 12 ft whitewater pram and need some advice as to the size of the outboard motor to use on it. I intend to use the pram primarily on lakes but occasionally I would want to remove the motor and use the pram on class I or II rivers. The sticker on the boat states up to a 20 hp motor but my friend who sold it to me said, that with a 15 hp motor, it didn't handle all that well when it got up on a plane. The pram has a rocker bottom like a drift boat with no keel. I don't need to go all that fast or get up on a plane so something smaller would be fine I think. Weight and cost are factors but most importantly does it move the boat along.

My question is would a 6, an 8 or a 9.9 hp be appropriate or perhaps sufficient for a boat of this type?

Many thanks for your insights.

its going to be like a drift boat with a motor on it. Very squirrely on plane. A 6 hp or a big electric will be fine. if you want a boat to go fast on lakes get a v hull.
