It was supposed to be a stay-at-home Sunday. Wife was busy doing stuff around the house and the kids played outside. I tied some flies. But the nice weather was too hard to ignore. Got the green light to fish for a couple of hours in the late afternoon hours with the little one so off we went. Nice, warm and calm when we launched with a lot of boats pulling out as we prepped. Tide was just about to top out on our first stop with a water temp of 55 deg. A few feet into our first drift and got our first hook-up:

Reeling one in:

No need for a boga:

The first fish hit within the first 3 strips, right next to the thullies. It was the same pattern on the next 5 fish.

Another cookie cutter stripe:

Moved on to the next spot and drifted with the start of the outgo. Same pattern; fish were tight up against the bank. First fish was a dink, then a small LMB that shook the fly off. Got a solid hit a few casts later and handed it off to my deckhand thinking it was another smaller fish. As soon as he started reeling in, it peeled some line.

Hooked up on a bigger one:

Take the pic already! I can't hold him up! This 5-lber looks huge with him hoisting it up :D

A few feet further downstream, I got to fight and land one:

Another nice delta outing. The conditions were spectacular and had a blast spending some time with a future fishing junkie.

Nice work man, those last two fish are toads. Way to take advantage of the weather and make it happen.

Thanks Mr Tuna. These last minute trips are my favorites. Just go when I can with low expectations and the results are almost always good. And it helps that taking the kid with me is almost always an instant hall pass. :D

According to the old Delta guys March can be a good month for Stripers then they almost all head up the Sacramento River to spawn somewhere near Colusa, California.

Looks like a fun trip out on the water with a junior fisherman. Thanks for the report and the pictures :)
