Lake Davis Campgrounds

Anybody know when the campgrounds on the east side of Davis open up for 2013 (Lightning Tree, Grasshopper, etc)?

I'm not sure if they finished the upgrades at Grizzly and Grasshopper, but Lighting Tree is a go. Best to call the Beckwourth-Mohawk Ranger station; 530.836.2575.

On an average year, when does Davis ice out? I have always wanted to fish it then? I'm itchen to fishen it.

Ice out at Lake Davis is usually early to mid April. The first aquatic insects to get going are small black midges, and blood midges #10, yep big ones. The spawn starts happening near feeder creeks on the east side at this time, and hot orange flies have done well for me - It's also when I catch my bigger fish of the season. I really do not get too excited until mid May when the fish come off the spawn and are hungry. Hatches start to increase then and the fish start to set up camp near the food factories on the west and north part of the lake.

You have no idea how much I want to be out there and stalk fish off the bank!
