Crappie start spawning at 55 degrees, and the crappie were schooling up with the water temp. at 54 degrees yesterday. I have never caught that many crappie at Racho Seco, just a couple a season.....but yesterday we found a school and caught 9 crappie between two of us. Also SMUD is buying some very nice trout from Lasson fish hatchery, and planting the trout into the lake. I haven't heard anything about a derby yet.....so i'm not to sure what going on.
I tied a floating dragonflie nymph for Pyramid Lake and it caught a nice bass about 2 lbs on it....nice to see that the dragonflie works.

GRAND post Gene,
We are always threatening to get much more personal with crappie. Love eating them. Also love pestering them, although it is way too often incidental. Maybe this year. ;-)

I see a "sly line" worked. Any special bug....or any generic minnow immi?

I should probably think about hitting Rancho up.... seems like a good place to keep the rust off while my usual haunts are snowed in

Gene, what line were you using and which part of the lake was producing the crappie. I might head out on Sunday.
