That's a good looking pattern. Is the floatation in the cylinder inside the wing??? Looks like it might tend to roll a bit when retrieving. May not make any difference up there, tho.

I'd suggest a shooting head line/short leader for that fly. Maybe t-11 or something similar. The fly will float upward, bob and weave on the retrieve.

Another great fly Gene. Pyramid has tournaments for 2 weekends starting on the 9th, so I am thinking of going on 23rd, possibly.

I use a 1/8 fly foam about 1 1/2 inches long for the wing.
Your right Darian it does roll over on its side when i ripped it, may be i should call it a suspended injured tui chub.
Engineering a fly is part of the fun of fly tying, I'm going to put a weed guard on this fly and it could help in keeping it from rolling.

Nice job Gene. I especially like it when the fly isn't being ripped. Pauses of all lengths make it life-like to my eyes (I know you're not catching anglers though). I think the side roll is an advantage actually. Injured movements often provide a great trigger for predatory gamefish.

Cheers, Ken

Awesome Gene! Two words; Eagle Lake. Those rainbows will crush that fly in Sept. and Oct. when the bait balls are active.

Gene,

The chubs are about 2 inches long at most. I've seen bait balls as big as a full size truck. Look for the pelicans herding them into the shoreline.

Jon that is so funny that is the first thing I thought Eagle Lake, then Crowley Early summer when the tui chubs start showing up in numbers there.

Its a great looking fly and I like the fact it turns sideways when stripped. It will stand out in the heard!
