Planning a bachelor party No Tahoe, No Vegas, Yes fly fishing, but needs to be near a few pubs or something for the guys who don't fish.

If anyone could give me some tips on where to be looking for a cabin rental that would be great. We live in San Jose/SF area and would like to keep the drive under 5 hours.

I've been looking at the mammoth area, but have never fished there so not exactly sure about location.

Say hey Sammy,

When is the party? I bet that important bit of info will direct people on how to respond to your question.

Cheers, Ken

Why not tahoe? Folks can fish the truckee/carson depending on which side of the lake. Golf, biking, casinos, SUPing for those who don't fish. Easy to import exotic ladies from nevada.

My bad. It would be late july or august.

The reason for no Tahoe, is that our group of close friends has always done tahoe for bachelor parties. My brother wants to do something different.

Bourbon, neat. After a few three finger pours, it wont matter where you are anyway...

Just busting your stones! Not too sure if shaver lake area would fit the bill, but we had a great time over the Holidays meeting a few families from around the state. It was central for all. Not too far away either...

I went once on a Bachelor party to Barryessa, rented a houseboat, really good time. I was with one friend who fished and we went out and back by the time everyone else woke up and had breakfast made. Putah creek or still water? No pubs but a mobile bar makes everyone pretty happy.

Maybe the chico area? Deer creek?

What about camping or a cabin and hanging out with your bro's (can I still say bro's?). I know of a great cabin in Magalia. Hogan Browns site has a cabin near the yuba too.

My most memorable ones were hanging out with my fiends.

Have fun, Jim

June Lake area. Lots of places to fish and pub/bar for the evening hours.

Graeagle! Middle fork of the feather ( great dry fly river in summer months),lakes basin has numerous lakes and creeks. Plus you have the Yuba river on the other side of gold lake road. And a bonus is Lake Davis a hop skip and a jump away. There are some small pubs and restruants as well. Mohawk tavern & the Knotty pine inn are some of the pubs .

I would opt for early July so the fishing would still be good.........August is usually too hot.

Upper Sacramento River @ Dunsmuir at the Cave Springs cabins.

North Fork of the Yuba River around Downieville...lots of resorts along the river with multiple cabins.

Houseboating on Oroville hands down beats Shasta. Table Mtn Golf Course is nice. Fishing Opotunities galore.

Monterey would also be another pick to change things up. Great Golf nearby and Salmon should be in full swing in the ocean also some Stripers/Perch in the Surf and one can bring the Longboard and hit Marina Beach or bomb down to Big Sur coast.

Burney Area.... Lots of fishing... Camping or hotels... I'm sure there are some bars but do not know for sure... Have Burney Falls and Lassen Park for the non fishing types..

All good suggestions for fishing, but if I didn't fish and was going to a Bachelor party I wouldn't be too stoked on Dunsmuir, Greaeagle, or especially Magalia to hang out in.

I'll tell you a little bit about what I did on my bachelor party. My self and a buddy started camping outside Downieville and fished the Yuba. Next day moved down to the Yuba at the 20 bridge and fished that in the morning latter nonfishers show up at englebright lake with a power boat and canoe (canoe for stealth fishing the coves and moving all the gear beer, liqueur ice) and moved the party to a boat in only camp site for the next 3 days. Sight fishing for bass and bluegill, water skiing and general mayhem without any one to bother us. When some one wanted to go to the hospital we told him to suck it up and give it a day. All worked out great and no cops or robbers to bother with. All inside of 4hr's of the bay (The guy with the powerboat towed it from Anaheim!!)

Have fun and good luck

Good thing about remote boat in camp sites, it's easy to dispose of the evidence or bodies (not yours or mine just the others).

If you want a place for those who are not fishing to have fun, your fishing is going to suffer. There are not many places with good fishing in July with much else to do. I know you mentioned not going to Tahoe. I know many people go to Tahoe for Bachelor Parties, however they usually go to South Lake Tahoe or stay on the northside of the Lake. There are many other great places in Tahoe to stay where there is some very good fishing close by that are not in those Bachelor Party type places. For example, you could stay in Truckee if you want your friends to have shops and bars to hang in. If you want it to be easy without a lot of driving, you could stay at the Northstar Village, which both places are close to some great fishing on the Truckee River and other lakes and tribituaries running into it. If you go somewhere in August, I would pick a place that is high in elevation where the air/water temps are cooler. You can also try the Trinity Alps Resort, however it is very family orientated which most summer resort areas....but the fishing can be good and there are several small rivers/creeks/lakes to fish in that area. Another idea could be, staying at Mammoth Village or somewhere in Mammoth Lakes and fishing the Owens River and Hot Creek. The dry fly fishing on the Owens can be very good in July. I would not go in August however it is too hot and the fishing slows! It is often very warm there in July as well, but tolerable and fun. It is a great river to fish with more than 2 friends because it is flat and you can stay in sight of each other while fishing different parts of it. Some of the higher mountain rivers/streams are tough to fish as a group. Last but not least, the upper and lower Sacramento river can be fun but the nightlife scene is kind of a bust in redding....

Let the board know where you went and how it was if you remember! lol

Goo down to San Diego. The fishers can go out to fish for makos. Plenty to do for the rest of the world.

My vote is for N Fork Yuba near Downieville. We always stay at the Sierra Streamside Cabins (http://www.sierrastreamsidecabins.com/) which are just a few minutes east of town. The Big House has five bedrooms and can comfortably sleep up to about 8 if a few don't mind being on the floor. There are four cabins total, so you can rent out as many as you need.

Awesome setting literally right on the water. Good fishing out the front door, and close to the wild trout section upstream. Easy access to the Gold Lakes Basin for hiking and lake fishing. Supplies, pizza, and a bar in Downieville. Stay late on a Saturday night for a real taste of local living.
