In april I will be going on a family trip to Roatan bay island Honduras. I cant wait to wet a line. Sounds like bonefish, permit and tarpon roam the flats. Gonna try and book a guide for a half day. Does anyone have any reccomendations or stories they would like to share about the area?

Just south of Belize.....

Go to the top main menu bar above and then click on ARTICLES and you will see my 3 articles on "how to" for Bonefish, Permit and baby Tarpon on the bottom of the page.

I was there a few years back and also Brus Lagoon. If i'm not mistaken, the flats at Roatan are that big and can't handle a lot of fishermen, so hopefully when you go there won't be any crowds. There was a guide that by the name of Patrick, can't remember his
last name. I'll try and find it for you.
I enjoyed the fishing at Brus Lagoon but it has dropped off a lot since the netting starting. Use to be big tarpon and lot's of snook in the back rivers

We had two clients come in yesterday and are heading that way next week. Perhaps they will report when they get back?

There's a group there from specialties currently and from the sound of things via FB it's going very well.

Photos shortly. Gotta get home first. Another long day traveling. In another airport now. We loved our stay in roatan. But we are ready for our own bed.

I broke my 8wt the second day:( all the fish I landed were on the 5wt. Talk about a blast!

I walked about 3-5 miles each morning starting at sunrise. It didnt seem too far w/ the endless beautiful beaches and the constant search for bones. Some evenings and afternoons I would do the same. I put in a good 10 miles of walking per fish. I went 3 for 6 fishing for bonefish.

You would use all the same flies as you would in the Mexican Yucatan and Belize.....

Fish pics arent the greatest. I was more concerned getting the fish back in the water swimming away and casting for another chance.

How does the fishing on Roatan compare to Guanaja? It is my understanding there is less pressure on the fish on Guanaja.

I never made it to Guanaja. But it sounded like a way less in habitated island. So im sure the fish have less pressure on that island. Go check it out and let us know.
