Looks like another app and piece of hardware that requires a computer to make it useful. The product description makes it seem as tho it's designed for a special circumstance/task as in someone who travels the earth and requires knowledge of where they are at any given time. The cost involves a sliding, monthly fee for the plan of your choice as well as the purchase price of the equipment. Only the App is free. Not something for the average guy who is not a globe trotter and already owns too many toys....

I thought it might be nice for a CA Sierra horse packing company or an Alaskan float trip company so they could comunicate with the base, only if it is cheaper than a SAT phone?
With that monthly fee I too don't think it would be for the average back packers.

Bill, not sure if you're aware but you can rent sat phones. Not the most cost effective way, but better than nothing if you want to ensure communication is available in the back country.

SAT phones have really gotten cheaper too.
