Some of us fished it in the 1970s when it was super good but super challenging too.

Something I was hoping would happen in my lifetime. As a former member of the Hat Creek Restoration Committee I am happy to see some tangible progress in restoring this great fishery. For several years while Caltrout battled Nestle Corporation for the use of McCloud River aquifers, Hat Creek restoration seemed to be put on hold.

I know Drew Braugh, Curtis Knight and the whole crew put a lot of effort to win this grant money and start the restoration process. Thankyou Caltrout !

Thanks for posting that, Bill. For quite some time, my belief has been that, in addition to habitat restoration, the wild trout section of Hat Creek should be closed to fishing for a season or two, in order to give the water a rest. The hordes of fishermen wading the Powerhouse Riffle each season, certainly (in my mind, at least) can't be helping the siltation problem in the old Carbon Bridge area that once supported wonderful weed growth and profuse insect hatches.

But what about the lower section below 299? Not a lotta pressure down there

I agree. Keep that section open. Give the Powerhouse Riffle a rest.
