It sure looks like steelhead weather in the Sacramento area now. It's too bad that we don't have very many steelhead in the open part of the Lower American River that want to come out and play. The Sac Bee Fishing Line said that an experienced fly fisherman can catch 5-6 per day on the American but that hasn't been the case for me. Maybe it's because I only swing flys!

Maybe that's because you're a real steelhead fly fisher and not a bait fisherman!!! Good on ya!

5-6 a day, huh? Awesome.

Was out with aaron and joe p. this morning and worked about 2 miles of river--only aaron got a small HP.

joe fishes 2 sessions a day, every day, and only has a few fish over 20" to hand.

Of course, we're swinging too....

5-6 a day? I don't see that many in a month! I'm out twice a week. All I seem to be getting is the 8-10" rainbows. Where are these 5-6 a day real fish? I miss the tug. It's slow out on the lower American. Is anyone out there having productive days on the A? PS: did I mention I'm swing'n only.

5-6 a month! I'm lucky if I see that in a year! :)

The guys I fish with haven't seen much luck, although one did hook a nice bright 5-6 pounder about a week and a half ago. And if you're out there, you know they shouldn't be totally screaming up to the hatchery.....

Remember, the report on the American in the Bee is always gathered for the prior weeks fishing. Also, the source is someone at the American River Fly Shop. My experience with them is that their reports are usually very optimistic.... ;)
