Sturmer fished with his friend John Peterson today and boated this seven pounder along with another two dozen fish. John tried to keep up, boating about ten, including three 3-4 pounders but NO ONE can beat THE FISH MAGNET!

A baker’s dozen reasons why Sturmer, the “Fish Magnet” catches lots of stripers.
1. He can cast 80-100 feet with a foreword cast, 70-80 feet with a back cast.
2. He uses the proper line for the situation, usually a SA custom cut T-14 cut to 28 feet.
3. He reads the water well including depth, current and the boat’s movement through the water.
4. He casts effectively, using his “read” of the water, to get the fly down to the fish, leading or following the boat as needed.
5. He varies his strip to the topography, adding or subtracting pauses as necessary to keep his fly close to the bottom.
6. He religiously follows the fly and line with his rod, creating a straight line from his stripping hand to the fly.
7. He uses a short 4-5 foot #20 single piece leader allowing control of the fly without a lot of “leader drift.”
8. He varies the speed, and length of his strip along with the length of pauses until he dials in what is effective for the day.
9. He adds a good deal of “pop” to his retrieve, moving the fly in spurts similar to a startled bait fish.
10. He uses a strip set when he gets a grab rather than raise his rod, keeping the fly in front of the fish if a hookup is missed.
11. Once hooked up, he uses maximum pressure to keep the fish hooked and brings it in as quickly as possible.
12. He concentrates on every cast and thinks, “the fly,” not wasting a retrieve.
13. He puts in enough time on the water to be completely at ease and one with the fly rod in his hands.

All I want in life is to have half the energy, enthusiasm, and mental processing at that age and I'll be a happy old guy! He's an awesome casting instructor too, and just an all around great guy and fisherman.

Sturmer White is a great guy and a very good fly fisher.

Had both knees replaces.............twice now.

Like Joe Shirshac, they are both very powerfully built men.

And from the great generation, they don't make like that anymore.
