Today I had fun meeting and talking with many fellow fly fishers during the Kiene's/Orvis Expo. Despite the weather many people came out to the shop to check out new Orvis products, Sawyer Oars & Paddles, Yeti Coolers and much more.

A big thank you goes out to:

Hutch Hutchinson - http://www.facebook.com/hutch.hutchinson.5811

Hutch is our wonderfully nice and talented Orvis representative. He orchestrated today;

Hutch even braved the downpour to demonstrate how to effectively cast and control a fly line;

People watched Hutch's presentation from the safety/dryness;

Hutch even brought his best friend, and his Orvis "mascot" named Tank;

Both Jim Roberts ( http://wildwatersflyfishing.com/ ) and Brian Slusser ( http://www.flyfishingtruckee-tahoe.com/ ) offered presentations about their favorite watersheds which they guide;

Unfortunately I didn't get a good picture of the guy from Sawyer Oars and Paddles but he was very friendly and knowledgeable, here's one of their oar paddles in this picture, and him in the background;

Thank you Bob Scheidt ( Professional Fly Tier ) for showing people who to tie flies and talk about the art of fly tying;

Thank you Doug Duncan ( http://duncanflyfishing.com/ ) for teaching newcomers the basics of fly casting, knots and other useful information;

If you are brave enough you should join some of us from the shop tomorrow at Watt Ave to check out some cool new boats/rafts and the such. Doug Duncan, a talented tournament spey caster, will be offering a nice spey demonstration on the water as well. Bill can tell you more about tomorrow, unfortunately I cannot make it tomorrow, but I hope that everyone has fun tomorrow down at Watt Ave (by the bridge).

Thank you guys for all of your contributions today, and thank you for everyone who came out and visited with us at Kiene's Fly Shop today. :)

Thanks Adam.......it was a good day.

We will be down at the American River today @ Watt Avenue access........10am till 3pm

Remember that it is $5.00 cash to drive into the river and park.

Doug Duncan and Hutch will be putting on some casting demos.

I think I will be in my waders with a rain coat so I can cast some two handed fly rods.

Just wanted to shout out a BIG thanks to everyone at Kiene's for the last two days. Today on the American was beautiful. The on river seminars were great. The instructer's were awesome! Big thanks to Doug on helping me out with my spey casting, I'm a newbie and his help was greatly appreciated. Now I must practice, practice, and practice.
He makes it look soooooo easy.
Thanks to Bill & Hutch for the event.

That's great Will...

It was a nice event on the river today with about 30 people showing up. Most in waders with two handed fly rods.

I learned a lot from listening to Doug's talks and then he helped me with my Spey casting too.

It was a really great day out there.

Thanks to Hutch and everyone who helped make the event a success.

Just wanted to post a couple of photos of the spey seminar at the Orvis outing on the river a couple of weeks ago. Doug was a great instructor. I'm enclosing a few photos I took of Doug, Bill, and someone else doing some spey casting.
Thanks again Doug for your help, PM me if you want the origianl larger photo files, I would be happy to send them to you.

That was very nice of you..............thanks Rockman. It was agreat day at the river.

I am old single hand fly caster but I too am just learning to Spey cast.

I am very lucky to be able to get help from people like Doug Duncan, Mike McCune and Jason Hartwick.

Doug and I were up on the Lower Feather River in the spring. It is wild to be above him in a run and watch him cast on a larger river with a Spey rod.

If I get half as good as them, I will be happy.
