Picked up a 550 iFlight line for my 8 wt TCX switch last week. I took it out over the weekend and it blasted out casts. I added a lot more distance in my casts and it turned over well. Combined with 10 ft. of T-17 it got down deep and with the colored floating portion of the head I could see the head and mend it. I hooked 2 salmon with that setup in a deep run but one popped off and the other one broke me off. The line is going to excellent for winter steelheading!

Sounds like you had one hell of a day on the river Jeff. I hooked a nice hen on my 7wt One and it took off in a big riffle and that was it. I'm really looking forward for this winter and getting some steelhead on my One! I use a 500 gr iFlight head for my 7wt and it loads and shoots perfectly.

Fished this line a couple times and it honestly annoys the crap out of me.

Every time on the hang down you have to roll cast it to get the tip up out of the water.

And Jeff, I have no idea how you threw t-17 on this. I fished a pretty fast run with T-11 and the bug was hitting the bottom every couple seconds!

In slow deep runs I've fished T-3 and been hanging up on the bottom!

Both times I was fishing lightly weighted bugs as well....

I used it on my 8 wt TCX switch which is a cannon so I had no problem lifting the T-17 (no roll casts required). I was fishing a narrow run about 15 ft. deep so the river was ripping through there. In slower, wider runs I switched to a Type 6 sink tip and didn't hang up at all.

Huh. Tried it on a 7116 switch (450) and a 6129 (475). Stiny, joe and I all had the same "roll cast out of the water to get the tip up" issue when we were using it. that 8119 is a stiff beast, and you've got a pretty aggressive/quick stroke--so I can see how you can totally get it up and out.

Even with a floater and heavy tip you're going to have to roll cast more often than not. Jed you should check out Skagit master 1, and work on the perry poke variations. That will take care of any roll casting.

How does this iFlight cast in comparison to the Flight? I tried out the 470Grain flight last night, thanks to Kiene Fly Shop, loved it. I really like the intermediate sinking portion for winter and wanted to know how it compares to the line I tried (they do not have these to test yet).

It's more like a skagit short, I believe it's around 23' @ 475 grains. It has an aggressive taper so it turns over junk very easily.
